Barbie, a Real Doll – March 9

On March 9, 1959, Mattel launched “Barbie” and the ubiquitous doll continues to be a source of delight and controversy.  Dave Ramsey, the financial coach, talks about how preposterous it is that Barbie sets a bad example to children by using credit cards to buy things.  Others have railed against Barbie’s impossible physique for various reasons.  Still, Barbie is a cultural phenomenon that has brought pleasure to many children because of the variety of clothes and accessories that help develop fine motor skills while dressing the doll.  Like most things and topics, there are many points of view and opportunities to have a nice or unpleasant discussion.  What will you choose?
